Australian PR points calculator
Score yourself against the skilled migration points test for the subclass 189, 190 and 491. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.
Quick answer
How many points do you need for Australian PR?
The minimum to lodge an Expression of Interest is 65 points. That is a floor, not a pass mark — invitations are issued to the highest-ranked candidates within each occupation ceiling, so a competitive score is usually well above the minimum. The maximum available is 30 for age, 20 for English, 20 for employment, 20 for education, and 15 for a regional nomination.
Points test questions
How many points do I need for Australian PR?
The minimum to lodge an Expression of Interest for a points-tested skilled visa is 65 points. That is a floor, not a pass mark — invitations go to the highest-ranked candidates in each occupation, and in practice competitive scores have been well above 65.
What gives the most points in the Australian points test?
Age gives the most, at up to 30 points for applicants aged 25 to 32. Superior English is next at 20 points, followed by skilled employment and educational qualifications at up to 20 each.
Are overseas and Australian employment points combined?
They are added, but the combined skilled employment score is capped at 20 points. Years of overseas and Australian experience beyond that cap do not add further points.
Do I get points for a state nomination?
Yes. A subclass 190 state nomination adds 5 points and a subclass 491 regional nomination or eligible family sponsorship adds 15 points. Both come with obligations to live and work in the nominating state or region.
Is this calculator official?
No. It is a free estimating tool that follows the published points table. Confirm your score against the Department of Home Affairs points table and seek advice from a registered migration agent (MARA) before lodging anything.
