What is summary statement writing?
The summary statement is the cross-reference table that maps every Stage 1 competency element to the specific numbered paragraphs in your career episodes where you demonstrated it. It is the document the assessor works from, and a broken reference or an unevidenced element is a direct route to a negative outcome.
What the assessor does with it
The summary statement is not a summary of your career. It is a navigation instrument. The assessor reads your claim — "PE2.3 is demonstrated at paragraphs 1.7, 2.11 and 3.4" — turns to those paragraphs, and decides whether they support it.
That means two failure modes. A reference that points at a paragraph which does not demonstrate the element reads as padding. An element with no reference at all reads as an outright gap. Both cost you.
Format
Three columns: the element and its code, a brief description of how it is demonstrated, and the paragraph references. So:

Use the prefix that matches your category — PE, ET or EA. Page numbers are not acceptable references.

How long should a summary statement be?
It is a table, not an essay — typically three to five pages. Length matters far less than whether every element is covered and every reference is accurate.
